Scrumby treat for rugby fans!

Rugby fans can have their cake and eat it – while at the same time getting behind Sam Warburton, and his men when they kick-off their 2011 Rugby World Cup campaign on September 11 against South Africa in Wellington, New Zealand and throughout the rest of the tournament.

Look out for bakers, coffee shops and supermarkets selling delicious muffins and cupcakes in specially designed, limited edition Y Ddraig Goch (The Red Dragon) baking cases made by Hengoed-based Chevler.

Company director Norman Chase said: ‘People here in Hengoed wanted to show their support for coach Warren Gatland and the team in their efforts to win the Rugby World Cup this year. We are a Welsh company and proud of  our Welsh heritage.

We hope that Welsh bakers, cake makers, coffee shop proprietors and retailers will get behind the initiative and offer fans the chance to show their support by producing muffins and cakes in our special cases.

Everyone knows we are passionate about our rugby and this an ideal opportunity to show we are also passionate about our food. There are so many wonderful tasty recipes and exotic toppings now available. Many think they are just as good with a glass of beer as they do with a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee – great news for rugby fans watching the tournament on television at home or on a big screen in their local pub or club.

Mr Chase urges supporters to treat themselves while watching the matches and celebrating victories and points out, if the national team should have an off day and disaster unfortunately strike, the cakes, are an ideal way to cheer yourself up!

So look out for muffins and cupcakes in their patriotic baking cases.
