Chevler passes BRC audit with Grade AA

Chevler, the UK’s leading manufacturer of baking cases, tulip muffin wraps and a major printer of greaseproof paper, has started 2017 on a high after passing its latest BRC Certification audit with flying colours. The company’s Hengoed site in South Wales has been awarded a Grade AA certificate, the highest achievable without an unannounced audit.

The BRC Global Safety Standards for Packaging and Packaging Materials (Issue 5) has continually evolved and now demands greater commitment from senior management in achieving an effective quality management system using hazard and risk-based product safety programmes.

Chevler already has been awarded the internationally recognised IS9000 quality management and quality assurance certification to guarantee it meets the needs of customers and other stakeholders while meeting statutory and regulatory requirements.

A delighted Stuart Whelan, Chevler’s managing director, described the BRC standards as wide-ranging adding that:: “A fantastic, fully committed team effort”, ensured that the audit was hitch-free and the BRC Grade AA status being attained.

He added that that buyers of printed greaseproof paper should  note that the latest standard requires documented procedures covering all activities such as the collation and receipt of artwork and related information, customers approval, print validation trials and print equipment verification before use. It also requires documented procedures for controlling artwork and making sure all electronic files should be secure.

Mr Whelan went onto recommend that all buyers with product safety in mind should, therefore, check that their printers are BRC certified in order that they can buy with the utmost confidence.
